From The Village Board & Fire Department

In case of and emergency the last thing you want to happen is for the Fire Department or Ambulance not be able to locate your home.  Remember to properly identify your home with your house number.  House number questions can be directed to the Village Office at 697-2214.

Building Inspector Information

When thinking about a building project and not sure if you need a permit--please call Dale Prairie at 694-2583 In a lot of cases you may only need a temporary permit at no charge and these are not turned into the tax assessor to make your property taxes rise.  Not having a permit can result in a fine even if the permit was to be a temporary one.  Any work done inside of a building  needs a permit if it involves altering the wall's, electrical and plumbing.  Always call J.U.L.I.E at (800)-892-0123 before doing any digging whatsoever.  If you hit a utility line without a permit the cost will be expensive and J.U.L.I.E also will fine you on top of that for not calling them.  Let's work together to keep Chebanse a safe and good place to live.

From the Village Office

We are in the process of creating a Village Directory, not only for the current residents but anyone moving into the Village.  This directory will contain information about the Village such as:  contacts, maintenance info, garbage pick up dates, churches, schools, and businesses.  If you have a business that you would like to have included in this directory,  please provide the Village Office with any of the following information:  Name of the Business, Contacts, Address, Phone #, Fax #, Email and a description of the business.  Also if you would like to include a coupon, pen, pencils, note pads, etc., we will be including this in a welcome basket to provide to new residents.

The Village would like to recognize members of the Armed Forces who are currently serving.  If you have someone you would like to list, please send their name, address and information about them to the Village Office.  Information can be mailed, faxed or emailed to the Village Office.  Thank You.  Clerk Trudie Imhauser

WHAT TO DO WHEN A BOIL ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED!!

When there is a disruption to your water service due to a water main break, etc, the following steps are taken by the Village

when a boil order is issued.

1) Radio stations are called: WGFA, Watseka, WKAN, Kankakee; and WVLI, Kankakee

2) Kankakee Daily Journal is contacted

3)    Notices are placed throughout town in several places, Bank, Post Office, Restaurant, Gas Station

During a boil order, the water should be brought to a rolling boil for 3 to 5 minutes. If your water service has not been disrupted and you hear there is a boil order, it is NOT necessary for you to boil the water. Only when your water service has been disrupted.

When the water is turned back on, Mark Swinford from the Water Maintenance Department will take samples of the water from various locations and submit them for testing. Once the tests are received back with approval, the boil order will be discontinued. The above radio stations and paper will be contacted.

FROM ANIMAL CONTROL

Just a reminder to everyone with outdoor pets to please make certain your animals have plenty of shade, food and cool, clean water during the coming hot weather months. And remember that a car with closed or only slightly opened windows can quickly turn dangerously hot so leave the pets at home where they are safe.

Once again, I would like to ask the residents of the Village to please email or send me photos of your pets! if you don’t have access to a digital camera, call me and I will come take the photos for you. These pictures will be put in a database that will make it easy to return lost pets. There is no charge for being in the database or for having me take a photo. However, this does not mean you don’t have to register and pay for tags in the county you reside in. Any animal bites should be reported to me as soon as possible. My email address is:   jpapineau9@comcast.net  Phone #697-2062 In an emergency, call the Village Hall or the Police Chief as they can reach me by cell phone.
